Well. That’s a surprise.
The Emmy nominations are out, and…

LEAD ACTRESS IN A MINISERIES OR MOVIE Connie Britton as Vivien Harmon in “American Horror Story” Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin in “Game Change” Nicole Kidman as Martha Gellhorn in “Hemingway & Gellhorn”Ashley Judd as Rebecca Winstone in “Missing” Emma Thompson as She in “The Song of Lunch”

She’s up against some stiff competition, but it’s really nice to see the show get some little tiny piece of recognition.

Question

drldeboer said: While I, like you, a little disappointed there wasn't a bit more bonus with DVDs (thank god for YouTube), I was happy with the featurettes that were included and the info they contained. I thought everything included was well worth the price of the set. Surprised to learn that Maksim & Violet weren't fully conceived before filming, and explains why we have many unanswered Qs concerning them, hmm? But glad we got them. Keith, Tereza & Nick were great, too bad no further Sean comments.

It would’ve been nice if they’d included the set of interviews with the cast that have been seen around the web, just for completion’s sake and also so we would hear from Sean and Adriano (who was barely seen in the featurettes). But the Istanbul featurette in particular was really good - and surprisingly long.

I know Ashley was sick during the Istanbul shoot, which may explain why she wasn’t up for doing interviews. Sean may just have been focused on what he was doing… and he wasn’t in the Istanbul scenes so much compared to Nick, Tereza, and Keith.

Maksim and Violet surprised me, because on the one hand the producers have always said how prepared they were - that they wrote the ten episodes before they started shooting, etc. But clearly a lot changed during shooting, including location and so on.

The other featurette on the DVD set reveals that “Blond Assassin” (aka Maksim) and “Goth Girl” (aka Violet) were supposed to be pretty small roles originally (without even having names), and actually Nikola was cast with the anticipation that he’d never have any lines.
I guess it’s a really good thing that Laura Donnelly’s a pretty darn competent actress, and Nikola can actually speak English. I won’t say he’s competing for any Emmys, but he did a damn good job considering.

Post reblogged from Keith Carradine with 1 note

fuckyeahkeithcarradine:

Oh man, my Missing DVD set finally arrived.

The Istanbul featurette is absolutely beautiful. Gorgeous locations. It’s so incredibly impressive how good and professional this show looked when you see how quickly they had to film things, with a mixture of Czech, Turkish, and US crew members.

Nick Eversman is adorable and far too easily distracted by cake.

And Keith… “There are lots of wild dogs here… but they’re very friendly!” Oh Keith, how are you still alive?

We also got to see him learning random Turkish on the fly. And delivering a very melodramatic closing narration which I really hope he just made up on the spot. Sounded like something Vincent Price would say.

Oh, and shaking hands with everyone. No one shall escape the five fingers of incredibly polite doom!

Incidentally: not one word from Ashley or Sean in that featurette. I guess they were busy focusing on Turkey’s amazing exploding watermelons!

Question

drldeboer said: Haven't rec'd my DVD set either! Is this a new conspiracy?? ;) I plan on opening it the instant I do, so if I get mine before you do will let ya know.

This summer on ABC, our DVD sets are… Missing.

I suspect with me it’s just that the mail around here is notoriously slow. I did see a photo of the boxset that only mentioned the deleted scenes, the Istanbul featurette, and the general “Genesis” featurette though. So perhaps the bloopers are gone, or included as a secret Easter egg…

I really hope they haven’t disappeared completely. I was really looking forward to them (although hopefully the other features will also be good).

Missing DVD Set

Those of you who’ve already got yours - are there bloopers (gag reel) included?

The original press release said there would be, but more recent reviews haven’t mentioned them.

(my set is still in the mail somewhere)

Stillking Films' Behind-the-Scenes Gallery →

By the way, now the season’s over you might be interested in taking a look at the production company’s album of behind-the-scenes shots. They mostly focus on the crew, not the actors (although the shots I posted of Keith and Nick rehearsing were from here), but you’ll recognize most of the locations!

ABC's 'Missing' spies a world of exotic filming locations →

A nice article on Missing filming in Europe…

Judd, who plays Becca Winstone, an ex-CIA agent in search of her kidnapped son, savored the opportunity to soak up local culture in between takes. “When we shot in Istanbul, I’d lie on my back on these ancient stone floors that were laid in 420 AD while I pondered the inscrutable,” she says. “We shot on the rooftop of the Suleiman Mosque — no tourist goes to the … rooftop! We’d be in the middle of a take and have to hold the roll for the call to prayer. It was fabulous.”

[…]

For Judd, “Missing” rekindled the wanderlust she experienced in her 20s, when the actress spent every spring in Paris. “I think it’s very cool that they wrote to the locations,” she says. “In Dubrovnik, you’ve got this incredibly enchanting city made of marble, one of the great old capitals of Europe. Doing chase sequences through the narrow stone alleys and over the rooftops of this walled city was magnificent. The whole point was to film outdoors and capture the beauty of this setting.”

Had “Missing” been renewed for a second season, Poirier had planned on a fresh influx of locations — in fact, he had hoped to “do a different continent every year,” he says. And while that now won’t come to pass, they’ll always have Paris.
